What is Eczema?

Eczema is a recurring inflammatory skin condition where the skin becomes dry and flaky, with patches of skin that are red and itchy. Children typically are most prone to be affected, though it tends to disappear as your child ages. Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema; it tends to appear on places such as:

  • Facial areas (mainly the eyelids)
  • neck
  • elbows
  • knees
  • ankles
  • groin

The experience of dealing with eczema can be difficult and exhausting, especially when it affects young children. Dr. Obayan has a proven record in treating this disorder and patiently works with each patient along with parents to find lasting solutions for their child.

What causes Eczema?

Eczema is thought to be a hereditary or genetic condition with family medical history playing a large role. However, there are also other conditions such as environmental factors that can contribute to its effects.

How is Eczema treated?

The best way to treat eczema is to first identify any potential environmental triggers to eradicate the source such as:

  •  Stress
  • Diet
  • Pollen
  • Mold

Once we have eliminated the triggers, there are other medical solutions such as topical medications for mild forms of eczema, antibiotics for more severe forms, and other therapies which Dr. Obayan would be glad to discuss with you. Please do call us and we would be glad to help you.
